Item Upgrading
If an item already has an upgrade on it (such: <staff name>of Shelter on it) can you change its upgrade without destroying the staff itself (such as change - of shelter by applying - of fortitude)?
Thanks ~Wolf1095 |

Yes.
The new component will replace the old one. The old one will instantly be destroyed for all eternity in the most agonizing and painful way possible and will never be seen again. |

Weapons or armor will never be destroyed by equipping them with an upgrade component. Only salvaging with a non-perfect salvage kit can break stuff (you will always get the upgrade component though).

If you are not concerned about losing the old mod (in this case "of Shelter"), you can just put a new mod right over it. The new mod will replace the old mod (even if it's just replacing a +6 Shelter with a +7).
If you want to keep the old mod, and you don't want to take a chance of destroying the weapon/armor, you will need to use a Perfect Salvage Kit. |
